THEOS

God, in the opening verse of the Bible, you revealed yourself to us as Elohim, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Now, in the closing chapters of the Bible, we see that you are making all things new—all things. These words are trustworthy and true. God, of all the personal names that you use to describe yourself in the Old Testament, this one word theos, is the one of the two most common names for you in the New Testament. Over a thousand times, you are called theos by the writers of the New Testament. God, creation serves as the bookends of Scripture—this present creation and the one that's coming. We anticipate the new creation. it. In the meantime, we wait. And we struggle not only with a world that's gone wrong but also with a relationship with you that we confess sometimes is confusing and difficult. God help us to be faithful through our struggles and confusion as we wait for the new heaven and earth.

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness.  —Psalm 89:15,16
